Jazz Strada

Jazz Strada

“Jazz Strada”, an ambitious piece. While staring at Michelangelo’s all around Italy in May, I admired paintings that had a number of figures artfully scattered across the canvas. I have only ever painted one, maybe two, figured together in a piece before. This was a challenge I set for myself. This will not be the only piece with a number of characters in the scene. I found this challenge hugely satisfying.

This painting is based on a picture I snapped while walking down a narrow street in the old part of Rome. Rome was alive with music while I was there and these men has so much character and charisma I couldn’t not paint them. This saxophone player may just be the coolest guy in the world.
